Running in / Engine break in guide for Indian bikes

We all know, how excited we all become when we go for a new bike. For many of us, its a product of some much struggle and wait, some buy it from their salary, some of us after hard fight at home, but in any case its a hard earn product.

Most of the time when we get our hands to these high cc or high performance machines we understand how easy it is to accelerate and rev them hard and push them to their limit. But its really important for every one of these machine to follow a strict running in / break in guide line.

What is running in ?

During few early kms, newly made / machined engine parts / surface may will contact and these surface will wear inĀ  quickly, thus every manufacturer gives a simple easy guide line which an user should follow to break in / running in their new bike.

What if you don’t follow the running in guide ?

A proper running in contributed towards a smoother ride expiration and longer engine life and better performance. You can spot the difference if you ride two bikes, one having done proper running in and one without it in side by side.

How to break in or do running in of your new motorcycle engine ?

Different manufacturer has different guide line, however basic rule is same.

  • Do not start moving on a cold engine. Start without high rev and wait a minute before moving
  • Do not rev your bike hard, stay under certain speed limit given per gear.
  • Do not cruise at a certain engine RPM for longer time
  • Use mineral oil with shorter drain interval like 250kms within running in period.
