hello friends,
i purchased an avy 220 on feb 9th. i can only give it for first service on april 11 th (because i am out of station)that is 60 days after purchase, bike has done only 150 km.will the free first service become lapse..please help.
Hello Aurn,
As per bajaj given terms and condition, yes theoretically your free service and warranty would be void due to the miss of service schedule.
I suggest you to email your problem to Bajaj customer service -> customerservice@bajajauto.co.in and request a solution for the problem.
Thanks..
Hello Hunky,
Thank you for your reply,i will send an email to bajaj customer care..
Dear Hunky,
Thank you so much for the info.
Just a doubt in my mind here.. when i was reading P220 run in / break in blog, you have mentioned that its advisable to change engine oil after 250 kms. now seeing the current service schedule of AVY, would you recommend to change oil after 250 kms. or should I wait to complete 500 kms ?
Also, I am planning to go on ride 170 kms ( x 2 = 340 kms. ) during run in period and I am feeling that i am going bit harsh on my bike but is it ok if i wait after every 30-40 kms/mins for atleast 10-15 mins? what speed / gear level should i maintain ?
would highly appreciate if you can revert on my queries & come up with some more good tips..
P.S.: Thank you once again for enlightening us with great info.
Mihir.
Hello Sir,
Please understand this is a guide to inform visitors / users about Bajaj given service schedule for Avy 220 DTSi..
The running-in / engine brake in process for A220 DTSi is pretty same as the Pulsar 220 DTSi. Running in phase is a very important for any engine and specially for integrated transmission + wet clutch plater versions.
Maximum engine and other rotatable metal part wear tear happens within this time frame which peals off the excess metal parts.. This creates engine residue and gets mixed with engine oil.
The wont go bad within 250kms but its needed to get rid of that metal residue since more it stays in side, more unwanted damage it causes to the engine internal parts.. Therefore oil change within every short interval is needed under then running in phase.
Idle would be,
* Delivery time
* 200
* 450
* First Service (at around 700kms)
* Then every 500 kms till 2500
Yeah, I know, I wrote 4 oil change within first service, but it helps to find a really long lasting and durable engine later on.. If you cant follow such harsh routine, then just make sure, at-least one oil change at around 250/300kms before first service.
Stick to mineral engine oil.
Secondly, under running in phase, every manual advices users to avoid prolong period of ridding and with similar RPM for long. Its advisable to avoid highways and run in city roads where you get to go through all the gears and always varying your engine RPM.
So if you plan a long ride within running in phase, try to take back roads where you get to shift gears a lot (up and down). Don’t allow the engine to heat up much and give short breaks within 30-35kms or mins (which ever is early).. A smoke or a cup of tea may be !!!
Thanks for commenting..
Hunky..
Dear Hunky..!!
Thanks a ton!! You have once again taken me to next level.
I will change oil straight after 200 kms. & next in 450 kms & service etc. accordingly for another 2500 kms. & so on.. I am assuming that bajaj is offering mineral engine oil.
You have saved my bike.. my journey is starting from tomorrow and definitely, I am not choosing highway, constant speed/gear.
Just one thing in my mind (besides this topic) I am not able to find any dealer in mumbai for a good windshield. Local shops are offering me a plastic screen for 550/- now is it safe to have glass windshield? because I am afraid of buying fiber plastic windshield for less life, scratches, unclear vision & it won’t work as anti glare. Any good suggestion here would be just great.
Looking forward to read more from you (more is less, though!), so keep up the great job. – Much respect!!!

hello sir
I have not used any Local shops plastic screen so i have no idea about it . But, i have used the original Bajaj wind shield that comes in the accessories with a220 yes to some extinct its safe but some people with short height might have problem because from the glass the unclear vision. Don’t be afraid of buying fiber plastic windshield for less life, scratches, unclear vision & it won’t work as anti glare its almost there in the bajaj’s shield also so, i would say u till u don’t find the original one use the local made try it if its not good then get the original one
Thanks Mr. Roy..!!
Agreed and I think its quite sensible to do so.. I have already placed an order for original wind shield.. (in waiting list, though) but thank u so much for the suggestion..!

Hello Hunky,
Did Avy 220 equipped with the turn indicator buzzer.my bike doesn’t have such buzzer, service guy told me they will install it for 60 Rs. is it true.
Hello Arun,
No sir, none of the bike sold in India comes with any turn indicator buzzer. You mech is right, the aftermarket buzzer may cost you such (Rs. 50/60).
Thanks..
hello Hunky thank you,
I got my Avy serviced yesterday. does Avy vibrates like a 100cc bike during 20-40 kmph.i have done only 200km, is it a reason.
what are your suggestions to reduce the vibration. how can we identify unwanted noises from engine area.
i heard speed is locked to 80 Kmhr up to 2nd service, is it true.
arun
Hello Arun,
Every new engine and vehicle is required to go via a process called running in / engine break in.
Please read details here -> http://nexgenbikes.com/site/2010/09/14/running-in-engine-break-in-guide-for-indian-bikes/ (consult your manual for more info)
Therefore, yes, bikes are required to maintain speed limit on gear basis under this running in phase.
Secondly, there can be hundreds of reason for which an Avy can vibrate. Please check all screw / nuts and bolts around the bike, tighten them, specially the engine mountings. Check your spark plugs settings, tighten them if needed.
200kms is quite early for first service.
Thanks..
Hey Hunky,
Can you guide us on rear suspension adjustment of Avenger 220 DTSi????
I am feeling discomfort on bad roads….Same for pillon
Hello dear Hunky,
how are u doin, My Avy 220 having a problem. After the first service the brake power felt very low, and road grip of back tier become low too(felt like a skidding tendency).I told this to the service guy and he tighten the brake. After a ride the brake become low again, when applying brake with a pillion rider a movement felt in the brake pedal(like a push in a repeated frequency), the movement increases with increase in weight of pillion rider.I went to service station again and checked the alignment and they said its ok and they dont know much more about AVY.In facebook two more guys reported the same problem..i never crossed 60kmhr while riding…please help.

“hey guys…im having a peculiar problem in my avy
Mah bike giggles when i ride, it gets worse on bad roads and potholes (losing the godly feel) especially with a weighted pillion rider, i dont know if its the problem with the shock absorber or with the Tyre, it gives a wavy motion of riding going up and down…This problem persists …right after 1 week i bought it…
It doesnt give much difference in traffic roads, but does it on highways and free roads…
When i take this up to bajaj service, all they say is ‘It is normal!’ :@
Have tried changing the suspension setting to both soft and hard, In hard, it give me a pain in my ass..in soft, the above problem comes in….
I love my avy and want it to be set back to the perfect avy :”
.please help us

Hi,
I got eh delivery of my Bajaj Avenger 220 DTSi on the 7th of May, 2011. Its not yet been more than 30 days. However due to my hectic schedule, I was unable to give it for servicing on the 750 Km mark and have run it for around 820 Km.
Will this void my 2 year warranty? I ask this as I am still within the 30 day period.
Also, if the warranty is void, is it terminated only for before the next service or is it completely terminated for the entire 2 years.
Thanks in Advance. Hoping that its not void.
Nikhil.
hello nikil,
Give your bike for first service immediatly.if you are with in the 30days period no problem.just give it to your dealers service station..they wont care lot about this km thing…only if a lady receptionist is there she will tell some bla bla..(ask them to note the km as 750 in the warrenty booklet).if so talk to the service manager directly..you can also try rotate your bikes front wheel backwards, may be the metre will run backwards..ask some nabourhood kid to do that.buy some chocolate for him.he will be happy u will be happy too.dont put bajaj dtsi10000 engine oil try motul 30004T plus 20w50 grade. importent if you are anyway going to use the goddam dtsi10000 oil dont add that stupid engine oil additive with it. if your bike is running smooth and powerful it will be good to tell them not to tune it again..try to be the first one in the service Q and be with the bike when they are doing it. Ride safe brother dont cross 70kmph for the 2000km and dont be rough with the bike. Enjoy riding the Crome boy, Thats what i call my avy.
hello nikil ,
For avy the first service period is 45 days or 750kM, check your free service coupens.
Hi sir
M planning to buy avenger 220 in next weak, but really m in confusion ,pls tel me honestly ,i want 2 know about
1. Mileage
2. Maintainence
3. Bhp power
4.road grip
5. brakes & any vibrations after 100km
Hello,
mileage
Proper maintenance along a better engine oil should offer a mileage of 50/55 kmpl under controlled riding (highway within 55/60 speed) where as maintaining 80/85 should offer around 40+ with better plugs like NGK Iridium IX..
Under city it depends on your ridding style, some gets bellow 30 where as some are getting 35/38…
maintenance
It’s a bajaj product so dont expect quality from it.. Spare parts will fail a lot compare to other bikes but what you can expect from Bajaj is dead cheap spares..
You would need to spend more time maintaining it but with relatively lower price / cost than Yamaha or other !!!
power
It is a basic P220 engine, with tuned down to 19ps for smoothness !!
Still its a pretty fast machine !!! One would love the power..
Road Grip
Its cruiser, not exactly a machine meant for corner or such performance riding..
Tires are good enough for a cruiser..
Down side is the tube type tire
brakes
Should have been better, specially the rear drum.. It gives you a wobly feel with pillion and bike hitting ditch !!!
brake mechanism is poorly designed for rear brake..
any vibrations after 100km
do you mean speed or kms traveled ??
Thanks..
Hi,
I wanna known details about the free services, Is that possible to use the first free after 30 days also?
