TVS – BMW K03 (300cc) is under heavy testing

TVS off late has dropped out of the Indian motorcycle enthusiasts radar. Its been almost a decade since they launched their Apache RTR 180cc flagship to complete against likes of R15 and P220 DTS-i. But since then, their competitors have moved way ahead with new products along with new guys like Honda and KTM, Benlli (DSK-Benelli), Hyosung entering the market.

TVS needed something drastic since their Apache RTR lineup had aged way beyond recovery with small cosmetic refreshment. They did just that last year with their strategic alliance with BMW motorcycle and product of which, the much awaited BWM developed 300cc performance street fighter, coded named K03.

Recent data export data shows the BMW and TVS is quite aggressively producing test bikes and as many as 32 bikes have been sent to Germany, which houses the BMW head quarters for testing purpose.

TVS and BWM is expected to price the bike very aggressively as well, to gain that lost ground against the major players like KTM Duke 200/390 along with its cost efficient variant, the Pulsar lineup. The export data also indicates that the pricing as stated by TVS in export records, is within Rs. 1.10 L. Yes off course in production version along with profit, transport, dealer margin, tax, registration and insurance, the on road should be around Rs. 1.80 to 2L.

If TVS can price this 300cc street fighter within Rs. 2L on road, KTM and Bajaj will surely take some major hit in terms of their sales, which seems to be flying without any major threat for any other makers to challenge the segment dominated by Duke, RC, and Pulsar series.

So for TVS fans, finally some good news as by 2016 auto expo, this K03 should be ready for production and to battle it out with Pulsar and Dukes..
